Give today to keep the arts thriving into the future

Westmoreland Cultural Trust was created to take on a leadership role in the development and enhancement of the cultural life and economic well-being of the Westmoreland County region. Since its inception in 1992, the Trust has worked to cultivate, promote, and support the arts.  You can help continue this legacy with a planned gift that fits your financial and personal goals.

Tax Efficient Charitable Giving for Those 70 1/2+

If you are a taxpayer 70 1/2 or older and own an IRA, you may consider giving a portion of your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) directly to Westmoreland Cultural Trust.  You can make a Qualified Charitable Distribution directly to Westmoreland Cultural Trust up to $100,000 and exclude the entire distribution/donation from your taxable income.

This strategy has two advantages:

  • First, the distribution is excluded from taxable income as long as the distribution goes directly to the charity. The charity also benefits by receiving the full value of the gift without the deduction of taxes.
  • Secondly, the QCD will count towards your required minimum distribution for the calendar year.

For additional information on Qualified Charitable Distribution, contact Andrew McAllister at 724-836-1123 x250 or amcallister@wctrust.net.

Giving a Gift of Stock or Mutual Fund Shares

Gifts of stock may generate favorable tax benefits for you. You can save income tax and capital gains tax when you give shares of a publicly-traded security that you have owned for a year or more.

The procedure for making a gift of stock or mutual fund varies slightly. Consult your accountant or advisor to discuss your tax situation and the advantages of making a gift of securities to the Westmoreland Cultural Trust. Please call Westmoreland Cultural Trust Assistant Controller Andrew McAllister at 724-836-1123 x250 or email amcallister@wctrust.net for details and instructions on how you can give today.
