For Immediate Release
Greensburg, PA (Tuesday, January 16th, 2024) – Westmoreland Cultural Trust, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to stimulate cultural and economic development in the Westmoreland County region, is proud to announce that it has been awarded a $2,500 Mini-grant by the Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor (LHHC). These funds were utilized for exterior marble cleaning and masonry repair at The Palace Theatre, located at 21 West Otterman Street in Greensburg, PA.
Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor’s mini-grant program is financed in part by a grant from the Community Conservation Partnerships Program and the Heritage Areas Program under the administration of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), Bureau of Recreation and Conservation.
This generous support from the Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor (LHHC) has facilitated the restoration of the front exterior entrance of The Palace Theatre, aiming to preserve and restore its distinctive architectural features. Notably, the theatre’s entrance showcases golden marble sourced from the Tyros islands of Greece, the homeland of the Manos family, who constructed the theatre in 1926. Despite nearly a century of exposure to the harsh elements of western Pennsylvania, the beautiful marble-covered entrance to The Palace Theatre lobby has endured.
Local company Raimondo Masonry Restoration Contractors of Greensburg, PA was entrusted with overseeing the restoration project. Their work encompassed repairing damaged and broken marble, addressing crumbling mortar, and restoring the luster of the historic ticket booth. As The Palace Theatre approaches its 100-year Centennial Anniversary in 2026, grant contributions like the one from LHHC play a pivotal role in preserving and restoring the theatre to its original splendor.
