For Immediate Release
Greensburg, PA (September 4, 2024). Westmoreland Cultural Trust proudly announces the naming of The Palace Theatre Duffy and Summer Friedlander Courtyard, honoring the extraordinary commitment and vision of long-time supporters Duffy and Summer Friedlander. Instrumental in the original conception of the courtyard, along with J. Kirk Kim, Duffy and Summer have played a pivotal role in bringing this cherished space to life. Their latest generous contribution further ensures the preservation and enhancement of the theatre’s legacy as a cultural landmark in Westmoreland County and the Laurel Highlands region.
A vibrant addition to the theatre’s historic charm, the newly named courtyard will serve as an inviting space for patrons during performances and as a unique setting for special events. The courtyard’s enduring presence highlights the importance of community support in preserving the arts for future generations.
“We are deeply grateful to Duffy and Summer, whose involvement with the courtyard dates back to its very beginning,” said Benjamin Luczak, CEO of Westmoreland Cultural Trust. “Their ongoing dedication to The Palace Theatre reflects their belief in our mission and ensures that this beloved space remains a welcoming spot where art, community, and history converge.”
A commemorative sign in the courtyard and inside the theatre honors this renewed partnership. The newly named courtyard will be utilized during live performances and will be used as a versatile space for community and private gatherings, Trust events, and more, offering guests a special place to connect with the arts in a relaxed, open-air environment. Recently, the courtyard was featured as part of The Trust’s ongoing Rhythms of Summer concert series—with many more events and upgrades planned.
Westmoreland Cultural Trust remains deeply committed to fostering a vibrant arts scene in Westmoreland County and beyond. Their generous contribution underscores the power of philanthropy in sustaining and enriching cultural institutions for the benefit of the community.
